Since the formation of the second Palestinian Legislative Council in 2006, it’s democratic practices and roles have not taken effect in the occupied Palestinian territory. As a result a gap between the understanding of democracy and its practices has been created, especially among youth. The absence of the role of the Council has led to the mistrust in the vital role of this body and its reflection on democratic practices in the country. Believing in a strong youth political participation and involvement in the democratic practices in the state, Sharek has envisaged the formation of a Palestinian Youth Legislative Council. The Palestinian Youth Legislative Council is a voluntary youth body that aims at creating a successful model od effective youth participation and leadership. This initiative is implemented by Sharek Youth Forum in partnership with the Palestinian Legislative Council and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the inclusive and participative political institutions programme funded by the Government of Belgium.
